Everton (BUBBARU) Blender

everton blenderFrom amateur singing talent contest winner, to house painter, then in the1990s after Garnett Silk introduced him to producer, Richard Bell – Everton Blender has become a Jamaican musical staple. Over the years, he has undeniably set the stage for a number of reggae artistes.

Blender, who is known for songs, including, Family Man, We No Jus’ a Come, among others, meets us on a sunny Thursday afternoon in Florida, and Blender is his usual upbeat self. Here he speaks of his new single and his still unnamed upcoming album.

“It will be a good album with better promotion so that people all over can hear my words of inspiration…getting a chance to travel at home and abroad I found out that all my music does not reach to all my fans. So on this album I want it to really get the push it needs,” said Blender.

Blender says he decided to drop All These Girls as the first single after doing a European tour where the song was well-received. “A producer heard mi sing it at one show and said ‘you need to record that song’. When back in Jamaica I went to the studio to find a riddim that fit it. I heard the “Uncle Sam” riddim and it fit. It’s a song for the ladies out there.”

While talking about his current single, Blender also spoke of the inspiration behind his previously released tracks including Ghetto People and Binghi Man A Come: “Well definitely being one with the earth and the Most High; the sound of the waves hitting the rocks are a calming meditation. One of my favourite places is a place called Cane River inna Jamaica. You have to really be one with nature to feel the vibe.”

Blender, a man who is said to have aided in the rise of ‘cultural’ Reggae, with others including, Garnett Silk and Luciano in the 1990s, also briefly spoke of the growth of the genre over the years. “Well I do see the vibe has grown and is blending together well here and overseas. It’s doing well.”
